Manfred Geisler

Manfred Geisler ( born March 3, 1941 in Prauss, county chasing, Silesia) was soccer player in the DDR - Oberliga for the 1st FC Locomotive Leipzig or its predecessor teams. He played 15 A- international matches and won the bronze medal in the 1964 Olympic football tournament.

" Hubby " Geisler was defender. He began his career in 1949 in the youth team of BSG Chemie Leipzig. At 15, he joined the SC rotation Leipzig and went through there the other youth teams. As a junior player, he was appointed to the junior national team of East Germany and studied there for seven games. After completion of education Geisler completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith. In 1959, the 1.75 m wide Geisler was included in the squad of the league team of the SC rotation. In the following years he made with his team with the restructuring for SC Leipzig ( 1963) and 1st FC Locomotive Leipzig ( 1966). His best league result it reached in 1967 with the runner-up title in 1964 and 1966 his team was in each league - third. In the season 1969/70 Geisler had after the descent of the 1st FC Lok play in the second-rate DDR League, where he played all 30 league games. He stood in 1964 to be 1970 and 1973 respectively in the final of the East German soccer cup without ever became Cup Winners' Cup. As Lok Leipzig in 1976 finally won the cup, Geisler did not belong to the final squad.

After completion of the 1965/66 season Geisler had a plan to go along with his team-mates Henning Frenzel for FC Carl Zeiss Jena ( German Sports Echo June 9, 1966 ). The change came about because of an objection but not the East German Football Association. In 1976 he returned to Chemie Leipzig back where he played for two seasons in the second-rate DDR -Liga. In the district division (3rd Division) turbine Markranstadt he had finally end his footballing career. Overall Geisler denied 318 games in the GDR Oberliga, scoring 46 goals.

After two games in the GDR junior national Geisler his debut for the national football team of the GDR announced on January 2, 1965 in a 2-0 against Uruguay in Montevideo, his last international game he played in Amsterdam at 0-1 against the Netherlands on September 13, 1967. For the A - selection, he played a total of 15 games and scored one goal. In 1964 he was inducted into eight official games of football Olympic team of the GDR, was at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the small final of the football tournament and won the bronze medal with his team.
