Manfred Honeck

Manfred Honeck ( born September 17, 1958 in Nenzing ) is an Austrian conductor and violist.

Education and career start

Manfred Honeck studied violin and viola at the Music Academy in Vienna and was before the start of his career as a conductor, violist with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera. After retiring as a violist he played as a substitute in the violin section of the Vienna Philharmonic.

His first experience as a conductor, he collected at the Jeunesse Musicales Orchestra in Vienna, as well as assistant to Claudio Abbado at the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

Career

From 1991 to 1996, Manfred Honeck first conductor at the Zurich Opera House. In the years 1997 and 1998 he was music director of the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo. In 1998 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1996 to 1999 Manfred Honeck was one of the three main " conductors " of the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig. Subsequently, he was from 2000 to 2006 chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm.

Family

Manfred Honeck lives in Austria in the community Altach, Vorarlberg, with his wife Christiane and her six children. One of his sons is the professional football player Manuel Honeck, another is the amateur football and musicians Simeon Honeck. His son Matthias Honeck is a violinist in the orchestra of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. His brother Rainer Honeck is concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic. The parents Otto and Frieda Honeck have a total of nine children.
