Altach

Altach a town in the district of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg Austria with 6353 inhabitants (December 31, 2013). Because of the small area of the municipality is, with a population density of 1185 inhabitants per square kilometer, the most densely populated municipality in Vorarlberg.

Geography

Altach located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Feldkirch to 412 meters. There are no other local villages in Altach.

Neighboring communities

The municipality borders on three Austrian and two Swiss municipalities. These are the Dornbirn district belonging to the town of Hohenems, the market town Götzis and the community Mäder, which are also in the district of Feldkirch, and the canton of St. Gallen belonging communities Oberriet and Diepoldsau.

History

The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg alternately of Tyrol and Further Austria (headquarters: Freiburg im Breisgau) from. On 1 January 1801 Altach was politically separated from neighboring Götzis. From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the province of Vorarlberg Altach heard since the founding of the Vorarlberg Landtag 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

Economy and infrastructure

2003 there were 150 farms in the place of the industrial economy, with 955 employees and 106 apprentices, 2,454 total wage tax -employed workers were counted.

Education

There are four kindergartens in Altach. In addition, three schools are located at the site: elementary school, secondary school and free Montessori School (formerly private elementary school ). The music school " tonart " taught their students to some extent in the premises of the municipality Altach. At the site there are (as of January 2003) 720 students.

Sports

The SC Rheindorf Altach is a successful Vorarlberg football club. After winning the second class first division in 2006, he played three years in the Austrian Bundesliga. In the 2008 /09 season the relegation followed, and since then the club plays in the First League and there is alternating with the SC Austria Lustenau the leading club in Vorarlberg club football.

In December 2012, the Altacher New Year's run was held for the 15th time. He is now with almost 2,000 participants one of the largest running events in Vorarlberg and also the second largest New Year's run in Austria.
