Manfred I, Marquess of Saluzzo

Manfred del Vasto I. ( † after June 4, 1175 ) was Margrave of Saluzzo. Manfred was the eldest son of Boniface del Vasto, Marquis in western Liguria and Agnes of Vermandois, a daughter of Count Hugh I of Vermandois. He comes from a collateral line of the Aleramiden, one coming from the area of ​​Savona and Ventimiglia noble family that was wealthy in Liguria and Piedmont. After the death of Boniface, in 1125, the property was divided among his sons. Manfred received the area around Saluzzo. In the documents he is usually Marquis of Vasto, called in 1148 for the first time as he urkundet Margrave of Saluzzo. The date of his death is not known, the last time he urkundet on 4 June 1175 his son Manfred II will appear in March 1176 as the Marquis of Saluzzo.
