The University of Mannheim (until 2005: Fachhochschule Mannheim - School of Engineering and Design ) is a German technical college based in Mannheim.

History

The college was founded in 1898 as a private, urban subsidized school of engineering with the subjects of mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering by Paul Wittsack. In 1939, she was completely taken over by the city and renamed Municipal Engineering School Mannheim. In 1962 she was taken over by the state of Baden- Wuerttemberg and renamed National Engineering School Mannheim. In subsequent years, the range of subjects has been greatly extended by eg chemical engineering, computer science and process engineering. In 1971, the school of engineering university status and was renamed University of Applied Sciences for Technology Mannheim. Opened in 1977 to the high-rise as a building 10 In 1986 Mannheim as part of a federal pilot project as one of the first colleges to study in Biotechnology.
