Manor (department store)

The Manor AG is Switzerland's largest department store chain. It belongs to the Manor Group, which also operates the sporting goods chain Athleticum. The Manor Group is one of the Maus Frères Holding, based in Geneva.

The Manor department stores generated sales of CHF 2.8 billion in 2012. 11'767 employees (as of end of 2010) to work for the Manor Group. The winning numbers are not known.

The company operates 64 department stores in Switzerland. With an estimated market share of almost 60 % Manor is the largest department store chain in Switzerland. Important competitors are the Migros with its department store chain Globus magazine, Coop City department stores, Jelmoli and in the region of Bern Loeb.

The range of Manor consists of own brands such as Yes or No, Avant Première, JJBenson and Maddison, as well as branded goods. Manor positioned in the medium price segment.

History

The name Manor consists of the family name Maus and Nordmann. This name is used since 1965, but only since September 2000, the Group enters into all branches uniformly on under that name. Before there were many names that were anchored regionally. This is explained by the history of the group. In some stores, the brothers were first mouse only supplier, or later minority shareholder. The original, locally-based families, corridor or house names of the department stores have been preserved for decades.

The first store opened, the brothers Ernest and Henri mouse mouse and Léon Nordmann in 1902 in Lucerne under the name " Léon Nordmann ". More stores at this company followed in Solothurn, Olten, Willisau, Emmen bridge or train. A 1892 based warehouse in Schwyz renamed later also as " Nordmann ," as well as " Au petit Bénéfice " in Biel.

West Switzerland

In Delsberg 1957 Nordmann founded under the name " Gérard Nordmann " a department store, which has already occurred in 1964 under the name " Galeries du Jura " before it was renamed in 1987 in "La Placette ". This name comes from the department store opened in 1951 in Lausanne, the 1963 eponymous followed in Geneva. C. German Switzerland

A department store " Au Louvre " was founded in 1924 to " Magazine for gripping " and 1926 for " magazines to the Rhine bridge ", the most famous house in Basel. In Ticino, founded in 1911, " Innovazione " was adopted along with the name.

Appearance

Early on came the mouse / Nordmann operated or supplied stores, although with their different names, but in the same font on. In the 1960s this was a sloping from left to right writing, later adopted by the lettering Manor with the red logo, a slash and then the name in bold italics.

2008 Manor has given itself a rebranding of a facelift, including a new logo and the brand promise of donnons du style à la vie.
