Mantonico Bianco

Mantonico Bianco is a very old white varietal from southern Italy. It is cultivated mainly around the city Bianco in the Italian region Calabria, where it is contained for example in the DOC wines Bivongi and Donnici.

From the grape dessert wine is mainly produced. The vines are said to have originated in Greece and have been brought from there in ancient times to southern Italy. It is possible that Mantonico Bianco is related to the Mantonico Nero also called red variety Gaglioppo.
