Manuel Manzo

Manuel Manzo ( born February 10, 1952 in Mexico City) is a former Mexican football player who acted in midfield. He was considered a great talent, but at the same time suffered from alcohol problems. After his playing career, he was the coach of Toros Neza.

Manzo got his first professional contract in 1968 at the age of 16 years at the Mexican first division club Leon FC.

After he had signed in 1972 a contract with Atlético Español, he returned to his hometown. Three years later he moved to Chivas Guadalajara, where he was from 1975 to 1977 under contract. He then played one season for the UNAM Pumas before he returned in the summer of 1978 to Atlético Español. However, he moved after just six games for the Toros in early November 1978 in the North American Soccer League to Houston Hurricane. There he experienced his personal nadir in 1979, when he almost came under the influence of alcohol in a hotel pool their lives.

Manzo recovered from this grave accident and returned to his homeland where he stood in the 1979/80 season again at Chivas Guadalajara under contract, before he returned to the UNAM Pumas with whom he twice between 1980 and 1983 CONCACAF Champions Cup and once each in the Copa Interamericana and the Mexican league titles won.
