Manuel Pavía y Rodríguez de Alburquerque

Manuel Pavia y Rodríguez de Alburquerque ( born August 2, 1827 in Cadiz, † January 4, 1895 in Madrid) was a Spanish general whose coup ended the First Spanish Republic.

He took the 1866 " coup Villarejo " under the Juan prims command part and went after his bust for two years in exile. After the revolution of 1868, the Isabella II cost her throne, he returned to Spain. After the abdication of King Amadeus ' and the proclamation of the First Republic, he fought as an opponent of any form of separatism against the Carlists in Navarre and against the Kantonalisten in Andalusia.

Under the presidency of Emilio Castelar, he was appointed Captain General of New Castile region (and thus also of Madrid). When, on January 3, 1874 Emilio Castelar put the question of confidence and lost, replaced Pavia, radical Republicans fear could take power, the Cortes, and so ended the First Spanish Republic.

After this coup gathered Pavía all political parties except the Kantonalisten and Carlists and formed a government of national collection, which transferred the governance of General Francisco Serrano Domínguez. He ruled the First Spanish Republic dictator until it was officially dissolved.

Between 1880 and 1881 Pavía was captain general of Catalonia and 1885-1886 back of Castilla La Mancha, where he suppressed the revolt of Villacampa.
