Manuel Tilman
Manuel Tilman ( born August 20, 1946 in Fatubessi, Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese politician Klibur Oan Timor Asuwain ( COTA ). He is also Secretary General of the East Timorese Lawyers Association ( AATL ).
Private
Tilman is a lawyer and has long worked in Portugal and Macau. On his return to East Timor after the end of the Indonesian occupation, he worked as a teacher at a university. During the occupation, Tilman said to have had close relationship with the family of Indonesian President Suharto.
Tilman is a member of the Mambai ethnic group from the west of the country. From his Portuguese wife, he is divorced.
Political career
From 2001 to 2012 Tilman was a member of parliament of East Timor since the 2007 elections the only one of the party. In the 2012 elections, the COTA failed due to the three- percent threshold.
The " eccentric " PPT - chief Jacob Xavier Tilman accused several times of theft of property. In May 2005, about 20 ppt followers surrounded the home of Tilman and demanded the release of two million U.S. dollars, which is said to have allegedly stolen by Tilman two British accounts Xavier. The police made sure that nothing happened worse.
Tilman was twice presidential candidate of the COTA. In the 2007 elections, he retired after the first round on April 9, with 4.09% of votes. Political Position
During his presidential campaign, 2007 Tilman said in an interview that he was a " socialist, monarchist and mystics ." He was a descendant of the earliest kings of Timor.
Tilman advocated union with the Indonesian part of the island West (Great - Timor), even if the project is not currently present. With this aim it is to far space alone in the East Timorese politics.
