Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Hotspot

Maputaland - Pondoland - Albany is a biogeographic zone of South West Africa to the Great Escarpment. The area stretches from the Albany Centre of Endemism Plant (literally, " the center of the plant endemism Albany " ) in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa through the Pondoland Centre of Plant Endemism and the province of KwaZulu -Natal, the eastern side of Swaziland and Mozambique to the south and to Mpumalanga. The Maputaland Centre of Plant Endemism is bounded on the north by KwaZulu -Natal and southern Mozambique. Maputaland - Pondoland - Albany is home to vast areas of temperate forests in which there are approximately 600 different species of trees. The region is unique as nowhere else in the world many different tree species are pooled. The famous bird of paradise flowers in the field are typical example of the Pflanzendemismus the region.

It is one of the African biodiversity hotspots.
