Marakabei (also Ha Marakabei or Marakabeis ) is a place in the district of Maseru in Lesotho.

Geography

Marakabei is in the middle between the Lesotho capital Maseru and the district capital of Thaba- Tseka. The place is located above the west bank of the Senqunyane in around 2000 meters above sea level. To the west lies the God Help Me Pass, east of the Cheche pass. The highway A3 from the Lowlands in the west to Thaba- Tseka performs Marakabei. On the road bridge over the Senqunyane is the Marakabei Lodge. The river forms the border with the district of Thaba- Tseka. The nearest major town towards the east is Mantsonyane.

History

The King of Lesotho, Moshoeshoe II (1938-1996), died in a traffic accident near Marakabei.
