Marc Newson

Marc Andrew Newson CBE ( born October 20, 1963 in Sydney ) is an award winning Australian designer and entrepreneur.

Life

In 1984 he graduated at the Sydney College of the Arts. About Tokyo and Paris, the path led him to London, where he is a resident with a partner since 1997. He is a creative designer at Qantas; other known customers are Boucheron and Dom Perignon. Since 2003 he also works for G-Star.

He is co-founder of the watch company Ikepod. Newson sold his furniture on the influential gallerists Larry Gagosian.

His work has achieved top prices at auctions: Sotheby's auctioned one of his three Lockheed Lounge chairs 2006 for $ 968,000; 2009 gave Phillips de Pury & Company the contract for another copy of the aluminum chairs at £ 1.1 million.

In 2005 it was one of Time magazine 's 100 most influential people of the year.

In 2011 he received the Lucky Strike Designer Award.
