Marc van Roosmalen

Marc van Roosmalen ( born July 24, 1947 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch primatologist and scientist with Dutch and Brazilian nationality. He is, among others, as the discoverer of 20 primate species and 17 other species of mammals. He has also discovered claims to 5 species of birds and about 50 species of plants.

Work

Van Roosmalen has discovered twenty new species of monkey claims to be from 1997 to 2007. By 2007, he described of these, only the following five types of science: the Prince Bernhard titi monkeys ( Callicebus bernhardi ), the Stephen Nash titi monkeys ( Callicebus stephennashi ), the Acarí - marmoset ( Callithrix acariensis or Mico acariensis ), the Manicoré - marmoset ( Callithrix manicorensis or Mico manicorensis ) and the Black crown marmoset ( Callithrix humilis or loud Roosmalen in a separate genus Calli Bella humilis ). Among the 17 other, he discovered species of mammals are among other things the Riesenpekari ( Pecari maximus), the Zwergseekuh ( Trichechus pygmaeus ) and the eponymous South American porcupines Sphiggurus roosmalenorum.

Marc van Roosmalen spends most of his time at the Rio Aripuanã, a tributary of the Amazon, where he has discovered any new species.
