Marc Vervenne

Marc Vervenne ( born April 16, 1949 in Ypres ) is a Flemish theologian. From 2005 to 2009 he was rector of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

He studied theology with emphasis on exegesis of the Old Testament and Northwest Semitic language at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, where he obtained his doctorate in 1986. In 1987 he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of the KULeuven, he was appointed professor here in 1992. He has also guest professorships in Lille and Kinshasa.

Vervenne is considered an expert in the field of the Old Testament. He has participated in several international research programs and is on the editorial board in various journals.

He is married to Christine de Roo, with whom he has three children.
