Marcel Bataillon

Marcel battalion ( born May 20, 1895 in Dijon, † June 4, 1977 in Paris) was a French linguist and Hispanist.

Life and work

Marcel battalion was the son of Eugène zoologists Battalion ( 1864-1953 ). He attended the Lycée Louis -le- Grand and graduated from the École Normale Supérieure (1913). In 1920 he was the Agrégation for Spanish. From 1915 to 1922 he studied at the École des Hautes Études et hispaniques ibériques in Madrid ( 1916-1918 military service ); 1922 to 1926 he was a French lecturer at the University of Lisbon. From 1926 to 1929 he taught Spanish in Bordeaux, he was until 1937 Maître de conférences at the University of Algiers. In 1937 he habilitated with the two theses Érasme et l' Espagne. In 1952 he became a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. He was editor of the journals Bulletin hispanique and Revue de littérature comparée.

Battalion was from July 1 to August 16, 1941 prisoner of the concentration camp Royallieu.

Battalion was commander of the Legion of Honour (1964 ), Knight of the Order of Saint Isabella, several honorary doctorate and a member of several European academies, including the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
