Marcel Bich

Baron Marcel Bich ( born July 29, 1914 in Turin, † 30 May 1994, Paris) was a French industrialist and yachtsman, who founded the company BIC.

The entrepreneur Baron Bich was also a successful racing sailor who put the first challenger in the America's Cup yacht outside the English -speaking world. For his four unsuccessful attempts with the 12-Metre yachts France I - III, 1970, 1974, 1977 and 1980, he was inducted as a member ( Inductee ) in the America's Cup Hall of Fame, not least because he was the first 1970, a professionally managed America's Cup campaign by the usual model launched today. He obliged, inter alia, the exception Danish yachtsman Paul Elvstrøm, from whom he separated in dispute, however, because Elvstrøm wanted to radical changes.

For his company, he used the shortened form of his name, Bic, because Bich resembles the English pronunciation of the English word " Bitch" ( bitch ) and thus was not used internationally.
