Marcel Rath
Marcel Rath ( born September 3, 1975 in Frankfurt ( Oder) ) is a former German football player. He completed 31 Bundesliga appearances for FC St. Pauli and played until 2011 for the FC Sylt in Schleswig- Holstein-Liga. For March 30, 2012, he returned to his hometown club FC Eisenhüttenstädter steel in the (Brandenburg league).
Career
Rath, who went through the youth departments at Vorwärts Frankfurt / Oder and chemistry PCK Schwedt joined in 1995 by Eisenhüttenstädter FC steel for Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga 2. When Hertha beefy striker came in his first professional season to 20 inserts (of which, however, only two on the entire time) and scored two goals. In the promotion season in 1996/97 its operations were significantly less, before he came to any use more in the first half of the Bundesliga season 1997 /98. Against the rival Michael Preetz, Bryan Roy, Axel Kruse and Alphonse Tchami Rath could not prevail, and so he moved to the winter break for second division side Energie Cottbus.
In Cottbus Rath came in the second half still to nine appearances before going into the 1998/99 season could win a regular place in the Lusatians and marked five goals in 28 games. As Cottbus in the 1999/2000 season surprise promotion to the Bundesliga, Rath was again only a reserve player. Although he played 21 games for the Lausitz, but 14 of them as a substitute. Without future perspective in Cottbus, he looked for a new club and moved to FC St. Pauli as a replacement for Marcus Marin.
Rath succeeded at St. Pauli in his first season of breakthrough. In 27 games Harry, that fight pig, as he was called by the fans happy, scored 15 goals and had thus significant role in the rise of the pre-season traded relegated Kiezkicker. His reputation as a fighter earned him in later than this season. His team-mate Holger Stanislawski expressed the lack of technical skills council after his three goals on 21 April 2001 at the 4-1 win against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen follows:
"In training he goes out for hours, bangs on goal, meet somewhere in the back of the pond or shoots from birds. That has worked out better today, must have been due to the bad grass, from which the ball is jumped him happy on his foot. "
After his third promotion to the 1st Bundesliga Rath were finally granted his first appearances in the elite class. However, despite 31 operations Rath get only four hits and at the end of the season St. Pauli rose as by almost all experts expected a considerable distance back from.
Rath then moved to LR Ahlen free transfer. In Ahlen Rath could not fulfill the hopes placed in him, in 38 games he succeeded only six hits, but got its reputation consistently 15 yellow cards. When he lost his place in the squad of Ahlen in the first round of the 2004/05 season after an injury, he dissolved his contract and played in the second half when strong relegation regional league 1 FC Union Berlin. In 14 games Rath get just two hits, and he moved to the descent of the Iron to SV Waldhof Mannheim in the Oberliga Baden- Württemberg. Also there Rath fell by more hard use than by gates on, and so the way the council and Mannheim separated after just one season.
For the season 2006/ 07 Rath moved to the first Cypriot League to Digenis Akritas Morphou. After only one year and the descent with Digenis Morphou, he returned to Germany and still played for four years until 2011 in the fünftklassigen Schleswig-Holstein -Liga FC Sylt. On March 30, 2012, he made his comeback with his hometown club Eisenhüttenstädter FC Steel (Brandenburg league).
