Marcello Pera

Marcello Pera ( born January 28, 1943 in Lucca, Province of Lucca ) is an Italian philosopher of science, university teacher and politician of the Forza Italia.

Life

Pera was after studying philosophy at first University Lecturer and in 1972 Professor of Theoretical Philosophy and Philosophy of Science at the University of Catania and later at the University of Pisa, where he taught until 1994.

One of his specialties was about galvanism and the controversy between Luigi Galvani and Alessandro Volta. He also dealt with philosophers such as Karl Popper, David Hume and Immanuel Kant, but also with questions about Christianity, Islam, relativism, liberalism and ethics in Europe.

On April 21, 1996, he was for Forza Italia, the Vice President, he was between 1996 and 2001, was elected a member of the Senato della Repubblica (Senate ) and since then upholds the interests of Tuscany. Between January 1998 and May 2001, he was Vice Chairman of the Forza Italia in the Senate.

On 30 May 2001 he was President of the Senate and held this function nearly five years until 27 April 2006. Between March 2007 and April 2008, he was again Vice- President of the Forza Italia in the Senate and has emerged since 2009 Member of from the Forza Italia Popolo della Libertà ( PdL ).

For his services Pera has won several awards and was honored not only with the Grand Cross Pro Merito Melitensi, but also with the Grand Cross of the Order of Pius.
