Marcelo Romero

Clever Marcelo Romero Silva ( born July 4, 1976 in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan footballer who is currently without a club.

Career

Marcelo Romero began his career in 1994 with Defensor Sporting Club. In 1996 he moved to CA Peñarol. In the summer of 2001, he moved to the Spanish club Málaga CF. In Malaga he played along with his compatriot Darío Silva. With FC Málaga he reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2002/ 03. Thus, the team won the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2002. In the quarterfinals, they failed to Boavista Porto on penalties. In the last two seasons, he was found almost back only on bench. After relegation to the Segunda División in 2008 he moved to FC Lucena.

On 4 February 2009, he signed a contract with the Carolina RailHawks FC in the United States, which played at the time in the USL First Division. It turned out that he had suffered serious knee injuries that were not generally known. These were not known until after the signing of the new contract. He was only a preseason game contest through these injuries. In April 2009 he was finally dismissed, without even having made ​​a single game in the league.

National

He completed his international debut on 20 September 1995 in a 3-1 friendly win against Israel. He twice took part in the Copa America and completed two World Cup matches in the draw against France and Senegal. Until his last mission for Celeste on June 6, 2004, he graduated from 25 matches and scored no goals.
