Marcin Zaleski

Marcin Zaleski (* 1796 in Krakow, † September 16, 1877 w Warsaw) was a Polish painter, university teachers and representatives of classicism. He was one of the most important Polish view painters of the 19th century.

Life

Zaleski was born in Krakow. He was self-taught. He taught himself to paint by copying paintings. As an assistant in the theater decoration he learned drawing in perspective. 1928 were exhibited some of his paintings; he won an award and a scholarship. On trips to Germany, France and Italy, he deepened his skills. Frequently the painter Vilnius. From 1830 he lived in Warsaw. In 1846 he was appointed here as a professor at the Department of perspectival character of the Academy of Fine Arts.

He painted (as well as Wincenty Kasprzycki ) cityscapes in the tradition of Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto. Preferred subjects were Warsaw, Vilnius, Kaunas, Krakow, Poznan and Czestochowa. Besides emerged room interior views (eg churches ), portraits and - above all in connection with the November Uprising in Warsaw, which he had witnessed - historical works; but here also, the architecture is in the foreground. Many of his pictures were due to the precision of the buildings shown in the reconstruction of the destroyed Warsaw after the Second World War as a template.

Zaleski was at the Warsaw Powązki Cemetery along ( Grab-Nr. 158.VI ). Of his works are located outside of Poland Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Istanbul and in the Palace Museum in the Belarusian Homel.
