Marcus Aurelius Scaurus

Marcus Aurelius Scaurus († 105 BC) was a Roman politician and general.

Political career

Marcus Aurelius Scaurus practiced by 117 BC the Bursary and by 111 BC, from the praetorship. 108 BC he was elected consul after the death of the consul Suffectus.

105 BC, he moved as a legacy of the commander Gnaeus Mallius Maximus to Gaul to oppose the Rome train for years threatening the Cimbri and Teutons. He fought as a leader of a Turma (Department of riders ) and was defeated in battle and taken prisoner at Arausio from Cimbrian commander Boiorix. He was taken by soldiers to Cimbrian Boiorix, whom he advised to surrender to the Romans. Boiorix was outraged by this piece of advice and had Scaurus burn before his army alive. So Scaurus died 105 BC in an unknown place in Gaul.
