Marcus Baebius Tamphilus

Marcus Baebius Tamphilus was a politician of the Roman Republic in the 2nd century BC

The son of Quintus Baebius Tamphilus and brother of Gnaeus Baebius Tamphilus BC was tribune of the people and in the same year, presumably involved in the year 194 in the founding of the colony Sipontum. As praetor 192 BC he was active in Hispania Citerior and Bruttium. The following year he led at the beginning of the Roman- Syrian War as propraetor the liberation of Thessaly, which had been occupied by the Seleucid troops .. 185/184 BC Baebius went as an envoy for the Macedonian King Philip V and to Eumenes II of Pergamon. In 181 BC he was consul and operated in Liguria, where he remained as proconsul in the following year, and the people of the Ligures Apuani relocated after Samnium, which was henceforth called after him Ligures Baebiani.
