Marcus Creed

Marcus Creed ( born 1951 in Eastbourne, Sussex ) is an English choral conductor and educator.

Life

Creed grew up on the south coast of England in Eastbourne, Sussex, and began his studies at King's College, Cambridge. He continued his studies at Christ Church, Oxford and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London continued.

After his move to Germany, he lived from 1977 in West Berlin. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, he initially worked as a tutor and then as a choir director. At the University of the Arts Berlin, he taught in the area of ​​song. He also worked in Berlin with the group " New Music " and the " Scharoun Ensemble" as a pianist and conductor together. In 1987 he became artistic director of the RIAS Chamber Choir, which won several international awards in the following years. He has conducted so far, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Freiburger Baroque Orchestra and Concerto Köln and the Staatskapelle Berlin and the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin. He also performed at numerous international festivals, such as " Wien Modern " and the Salzburg Festival.

In 1998 he was appointed by the Cologne University of Music professor of choral conducting. In early 2003 he became the artistic director of the SWR Vocal Ensemble Stuttgart. 2010 Creed was awarded the Prize of the European church music. His work is documented on numerous CD recordings.
