Marcus Musurus

Marcus Musurus, Greek Μάρκος Μουσούρος (* 1470 in Retimo in Crete, † 1517 in Rome ) was a Greek- Italian scholar and humanist.

Life

Musurus came to Florence to study with Andreas Johannes Laskaris, and then went as a senior editor for Aldus Manutius Greek to Venice. His work on Greek etymology appeared in 1499, and he also a Greek grammar together. He taught Greek at Padua and Venice, and his fame led Pope Leo X to invite him to Rome and to appoint him Archbishop of the Greek Archdiocese. He died a year after his arrival in Rome.
