Mare Tranquillitatis

The Mare Tranquillitatis (Latin for Sea of ​​Tranquility ) is a lunar sea on the Earth's moon.

It is located on the selenographic coordinates 8 ° N 31 ° E and has a mean diameter of 875 km.

In 1965, the spacecraft crashed here from Ranger 8, after she had taken 7137 photographs of the moon.

In the Mare sat on the manned lunar module of Apollo 11. This landing site ( 0.8 ° N, 23.5 ° E ) of the first manned moon landing was called " Tranquility Base ".
