Maréchal, nous voilà !

Maréchal, nous voilà ( in German: " Here we are, Marshal " ) was État français a French song in honor of Marshal Pétain.

Role models in lyrics and melody

Although the song was officially created in 1940, the writer André Montagard ( 1888-1963 ) and Charles Courtioux took the praises of the Tour de France as a template, which passe the title Voilà qui le tour ( "Look at the tour pass " ) wore. The first verses of this song denominated Attention, les voilà! les coureurs, les géants de la route ( " Warning, there they are, the racers, the giants of the road ").

The melody is based on a composition Casimir Oberfeld, who was later deported to Auschwitz as a Jew and there came to death.

Historical significance

While the Marseillaise, the national anthem of France was during the Second World War, it was almost always followed by Maréchal, nous voilà, which was a kind of unofficial anthem in the unoccupied part of France during the Vichy government. Maréchal, nous voilà was there on a regular basis, inter alia, sung by the school children and broadcast repeatedly on the radio.
