Margaret Craven (writer)

Margaret Craven ( born March 13, 1901 in Helena, Montana; † July 19, 1980 in Sacramento ) was an American writer.

Life

Margaret Craven grew up in Sacramento, California. After graduating from Stanford University, she worked for some time as a journalist. From 1930 to 1960, the author wrote short stories for American magazines. Early 60s, she studied the Indians of the tribe of the Kwakwaka'wakw ( Kwakiutl ) on Vancouver Iceland in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Margaret Craven is best known for her novel I heard the owl, they called my name, which was published in Canada in 1967. 1973, the year of publication in the United States, the novel reached the 1st place on the bestseller list of the New York Times and was designed by Daryl Duke with Tom Courtenay and Dean Jagger ( 1903-1991 ) filmed in the lead roles for television under the original title.

Blinded by an accident, but she wrote two more books, including her autobiography.
