Margaret Guilfoyle

Dame Margaret Georgina Constance Guilfoyle AC DBE ( Birth name: Margaret Georgina Constance McCarthy, born May 15, 1926 in Belfast, Northern Ireland ) is a former Australian politician, the Liberal Party of Australia.

Life

The daughter of a 1928 immigrant from Northern Ireland family initially worked as an accountant and studied at the Australian National University ( ANU) later. She was first elected in 1971 as the candidate of the Liberal Party of Australia as a member of the Australian Senate and occupied this position for Victoria to 1987.

After the electoral victory of the Liberal Party Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser appointed first in 1975 as Education Minister in his cabinet, where they 1975-1980 Minister of Social Affairs and 1975-1976 assistants to the Prime Minister was for matters of child well-being afterwards. After a further reshuffle she was last 1980-1983 Minister of Finance in Fraser's government. It was thus to Enid Lyons and Annabelle Rankin 's third wife in an Australian federal government and the first took a key with the Ministry of Finance.
