Margaret Prosser, Baroness Prosser

Margaret Theresa Prosser, Baroness Prosser OBE ( born August 22, 1937 in London, England) is a British politician same official and the Labour Party.

Life

Margaret Theresa Prosser was in London's Battersea in the London Borough of Wandsworth, South London, the daughter of Frederick James and Lillian James (born Barry ) was born. She attended the St Boniface Primary School in Undine Street in Tooting district and St Philomena 's School, Carshalton.

She studied as a late students at North East London Polytechnic, where in 1977 a post-graduate diploma in "Advice and Information Studies " acquired.

In the early 1970s, Prosser became active in the Labour Party and began her career as same official.

In 1974 she began her career at the Transport and General Workers ' Union ( TGWU ), one of the largest unions in the UK. She was initially 1974-1977 Head (organizer ) of the counseling center as part of a project funded by the Home Office to promote community development ( Community Development Project). From 1977 to 1983 she worked as a consultant and Clerk ( Law Centre Advisor) in the Legal Service of the union operates. For the TGWU Prosser practiced in the following years further functions. She has worked as a " District Organiser " (1983-1984), as " National Woman 's Secretary " (1984-1992), as " National Organiser " (1992-1998) and finally from 1998 to 2002 as Deputy General Secretary ( Deputy General Secretary ). In 2002 she went to the TGWU in retirement.

1995/1996 she was President of the Trades Union Congress (TUC ). From 1996 to 2001 she was Treasurer of the Labour Party.

Prosser was a member of the Equal Opportunities Commission (1985-1992), the Employment Appeal Tribunal (1995-2007), the Central Arbitration Committee (2000-2002) and the Low Pay Commission (2000-2005) as well. She was further chairman of the Women's National Commission ( 2002-2007). Since 2006 she has been Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Chair ) of the Equality and Human Rights Commission ( EHRC ).

From 2004 to 2010 she was also a non-executive director of the national postal service Royal Mail.

In 2012 she published her autobiography Your Seat is at the end, which she had co-authored with Greg Watts; the foreword was written by Tony Blair.

Membership in the House of Lords

On 11 June 2004 Prosser was appointed Life Peer. It bears the title Baroness Prosser of Battersea in the London Borough of Wandsworth. In the House of Lords she sits for the Labour Party.

On November 29 2004 she held her inaugural speech.

Among the political areas of interest include Prosser's labor law, wage policy, in particular equal pay for men and women, as well as equality and equity in society. Her special interest is the countries of the Middle East and the USA.

Honors

1997 Prosser was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

In 2007 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the London Metropolitan University. She received the title of Doctor of Philosophy, in recognition of their contributions in the fight against the discrimination of women, blacks and other ethnic minorities.

Private

Her hobbies include Prosser walking and cooking.
