Margarete Klose

Margarete Klose ( Klose actually Frida, born August 6 1899 in Berlin, according to other data at birth, 1902; † 14 December 1968 ibid ) was a German contralto.

Life

Margarete Klose lost her father early and therefore worked as a secretary. A colleague gave her an audition at Klindworth - Scharwenka Conservatory, where she received a musical education in 1920 in a six-year study among others, Max marshal ( 1863-1940 ).

She made her stage debut in 1926 at the Theater Ulm in a Supporting Role operetta Countess Maritza, then later she received the lead role of Azucena in Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. In the coming three years drew Margarete Klose in Ulm and Kassel, a large repertoire. In 1928 she married the director and vocal pedagogue Walter Bültemann ( 1879-1949 ), whom she had known since her work in Ulm. The next stage of her career was the National Theatre Mannheim, where she worked from 1929 to 1931.

In Berlin it was from 1931 to 1949 and then again engaged from 1955 to 1961 at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, in between from 1949 to 1955 at the Municipal Opera. She has appeared regularly at the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, La Scala in Milan, the Saxon State Opera Dresden, the National Theatre Munich, the Hamburg State Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, according to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

From 1935 she regularly gave recitals. 1935 hosted the singer at the Wagner Festival in Sopot Forest Opera. From 1936 to 1942 she was a regular guest at the Bayreuth Festival, where she sang great Altrollen, especially the Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde, with which it was identified. At the Salzburg Festival, the singer was heard in 1949 and 1955.

In 1946 she sang at the side of her friend, the soprano Frida Leider, in their farewell concert. 1961 withdrew Margarethe Klose from the stage and was limited to teaching. In the summer she gave master classes at the Salzburg Mozarteum.

She died on December 14, 1968 and was buried in the cemetery army in Berlin.

Importance

In the 1930s and 1940s, Klose was considered significant German contralto, particularly as a Wagner interpreter, she was also known internationally. She also sang Verdi and Richard Strauss, and was a sought oratorios and Lieder singer. Especially in the early years of her career she acted in performances of modern works with ( including premieres of works by Hans Pfitzner and Werner Egk ).
