Maria Nemeth

Maria Nemeth ( nee Green Auer, born March 13, 1897 in Körmend, † December 28, 1967 in Vienna) was an Austro -Hungarian opera singer with the voice soprano and a significant Mozart, Verdi and Puccini interpreter.

Nemeth attended trade school in Bratislava and from 1921 studied singing in Budapest, among others, Georg Anthes and Géza László, and in Naples and Milan. In 1923 she made ​​her debut at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest. From 1924 to 1942/46 she was a member of the Vienna State Opera. Nemeth had numerous international guest performances, for example, in 1927/28 in Dresden and worked in 1926/27 and 1929/30, at the Salzburg Festival. From 1953 she worked as a singing teacher.

1932 Nemeth was appointed chamber singer and 1955 honorary member of the Vienna State Opera. The city of Vienna has her named in honor Simmering in an alley after her name ( Nemethgasse ).

Buried Nemeth is with her husband in an honorary grave in the cemetery Döblinger (Group 32, Series 1, Number 1A).
