María (novel)

María is a novel by the Colombian writer Jorge Isaacs.

The only novel Isaacs appeared in 1873 and contains many autobiographical elements. He is regarded as one of the most important works of Spanish-language literature of the 19th century.

Content

The tragic story of love between María and her cousin Efraín is a historical drama and contemporary document at the same time. In addition to the idealistic version of Somebody to Love and descriptions of the home of the author, it goes Isaacs in " Maria " to the background of slavery in Colombia the 19th century.
