Maria Rita

Maria Rita (actually Maria Rita Mariano, born September 9, 1977 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian singer.

Life

Maria Rita is the daughter of Elis Regina and Cesar Camargo Mariano. She began her career at age 24. From their 2003's debut album Maria Rita 500,000 units were sold in Brazil. She received for this album Latin Grammy in three categories: Discovery of the Year, Best slice of MPB and best Brazilian singer.

She lived eight years in the United States of America, where she worked at the University of New York with social communication, journalism and Latin American studies. They can also be heard with Milton Nascimento on the production Pieta, where they sing a duet in sadness. Also, for this they received a Latin Grammy in 2003. With the Uruguayan musician Jorge Drexler they took the piece of Soledad on the CD 12 segundos de oscuridad.
