María Sabina

Doña María Sabina (* 1894 in probably Huautla de Jiménez, Oaxaca / Mexico; † 23 November 1985) was a Mazatec shaman.

Sabina was that curandera (ie healing Priest, Shaman ), from whose hand R. Gordon Wasson and his photographer Alan Richardson in the night of 29 to 30 June 1955 the first time the hallucinogenic and entheogenic mushroom Psilocybe caerulescens Bald Head var mazatecorum received as part of a shamanic session. From then until her death she gave her knowledge to the use of hallucinogenic mushrooms to interested parties. In the fall of 1962, she launched ( Mazatec interpreter in the house of Dona Herlinda in Huautla de Jiménez ) a Velada among others with R. Gordon Wasson, Albert Hofmann and his wife, in her first synthetic psilocybin, in the form of pills, each with 5 mg being used. Maria Sabina took a matter of a total of six pills, while Wasson only two, and Mrs. Hofmann were allocated only one. After the nightly ceremony she confirmed that the pills have the same effect as the fungi.
