Mariana Victoria of Spain

Maria Anna Victoria of Bourbon ( in Portuguese: Maria Ana Victoria de Borbon ) (* March 31, 1718; † January 15, 1781 ) was a princess of Spain and as wife of King Joseph I of Portugal Queen. From 1774 to 1777 she acted as regent for her daughter Mary I

Life

Maria Anna, was born as the daughter of the Spanish King Philip V and his wife Elisabetta Farnese, Princess of Parma ( Isabel de Farnesio ). She had six siblings, including the Spanish king Charles III. and Duke Philip I of Parma. The Spanish king Ludwig I and Ferdinand VI. were her half-brothers.

At the age of four, she was sent to the French court, in exchange for Louise Elizabeth, the granddaughter of Liselotte von der Pfalz, which Ludwig, should marry the Spanish future king - and he did. The mother had the companions of the well-behaved child inculcated to make it forget the Spanish home as soon as possible. The child had patiently for hours triumphs, pep rallies and solemn masses go through and made perfect conversational in French. Special affection she felt for Liselotte of the Palatinate, which you probably the only came face to face with casual sincerity. Less enthusiastic was the future groom, Louis XV. , Which was towards the child -resistant and mundfaul and went out of her way to wherever he could. I think he was very glad when she was sent back to April 1725 back to Spain because of the French Council of State had the Polish princess Maria Leszczyńska that was politically interesting found for him.

1729 she married, at age eleven, the Portuguese successor Joseph, when he in 1750 as Joseph I. ascended the throne, she was queen ( as wife, not as regent in its own right ). She had the following subsidiaries:

  • Mary I (1734-1816) reigning queen of Portugal ∞ 1760 Peter III. King of Portugal
  • Maria Anna (1736-1818)
  • Franziska Dorothea (* September 21, 1739; † January 14, 1771 )
  • Mary Frances (1746-1829)

In 1774, King Joseph I was declared due to a mental illness for no longer capable of governing and Maria Anna took over until his death in 1777 the regent for her daughter Mary. Politically, completely uninterested, she left the government largely Sebastião José de Carvalho e Mello, Marques de Pombal.
