Mariara is the capital of the municipality ( municipality ) in Carabobo Diego Ibarra in northern Venezuela.

Geography

Location

Mariara is located in the north- central Venezuela at the southern foot of the coastal mountains just north of Valenciasee.

Geology

The mountain range north of Mariara is also called Sierra de Mariara and consists largely of granite formations. Alexander von Humboldt told that the rocks than from a very coarse-grained, porphyritic granite almost exist in the prominent yellowish - white crystals of feldspar. The center of the mountain range in this region is called Rincon del Diablo. The western wing is called Viruelas and the eastern Chaparro. The hot springs are located just northeast of Mariara.

History

When the Europeans arrived mid-16th century, inhabited Caribbean tribes in this region. The Conquistador Vicente Díaz came with his troops in this area around 1555. A battle has been registered in the area between his soldiers and the Indians.

The Tovar family had large estates during the colonial period. Officially Mariara was founded on December 3, 1781 by Bishop Mariano Martí. Alexander von Humboldt visited the village beginning in 1800.

Several of the first battles in the War of Independence ( 1811) took place in the area. One of the first battles of the Revolutionary War took place between Mariara and La Cabrera, on Valenciasee, on 19 July 1811. There, the Republicans fought under the leadership of the Marquis del Toro and the troops of the Spanish crown, headed by Jacinto Iztueta.

Traffic

The motorway " Autopista Regional del Centro " between Caracas and Valencia goes south right past Mariara. West of Mariara the motorway exit after Mariara and San Joaquin. A national road " Carretera Panamericana " leads from Maracay to Mariara and on to San Joaquin.

Public Buildings

A small health center, Ambulatorio de Mariara, located just east of the town hall. There are several primary schools and a secondary school.

Culture and sights

The Catholic Church Mariaras called Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
