Marie Emmanuel Augustin Savard

Augustin Savard ( born May 15, 1861 in Paris, † December 6, 1942 in Lyon) was a French composer and music educator.

The son of Marie Gabriel Augustin Savard studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Jules Massenet, Antoine and Émile Durand Taudou. In 1886 he won with the cantata La Vision de Saul the Premier Grand Prix de Rome. After his return from Rome, he was 1892-93 conductor at the Paris Opera. From 1902 until his retirement in 1921, he headed the Conservatory of Lyon.

He composed, among others the opera La Forêt, which was premiered in 1910 at the Paris Opera, an overture to the drama King Lear, a Poème for voice and orchestra, and various chamber works.
