Marie Fillunger

Marie Fillunger (born 27 January 1850 in Vienna, † December 23, 1930 in Interlaken ) was an Austrian singer.

Life

Marie Fillunger studied from 1869 to 1873 at the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna with Mathilde Marchesi. On the recommendation of Johannes Brahms, she studied from 1874 to 1879 at the Academy of Music in Berlin. There also began a love affair between her and Eugenie Schumann (1851-1938), the daughter of Clara and Robert Schumann.

In January 1889, she moved to London, where he was known primarily as an interpreter of the songs of Schubert and Brahms. She made concert tours to Australia and South America. From 1904 to 1912 she taught at the Royal College of Music in Manchester. After the First World War she lived in Switzerland.
