Marienthal, Luxembourg

Marienthal ( Luxembourgish: Mariendall ) is a village belonging to the municipality of Luxembourg Tuntange, in the canton of Mersch. In 2005, the city had 105 inhabitants.

Geography

Marienthal is located in the valley of the Eisch, northeast of Ansembourg ( Tuntange ) at an altitude of about 236 m. It is in a large river bend on a southern slope, which runs from Hollenfels from. The southern slope is also called Rebbe. Not far away is the Reiterlee, north-west of that is the pinnacle of Buerggruef. East of Marienthal is the Kolle field of Marie Thalerhofstraße.

In addition to the buildings of the monastery in Marienthal Marienthal is still a former restaurant on the road from Aansebuerg after stretching. A fed by the waters of the Äisch ditch runs to the monastery and fed there a trout pond.

History

The Marienthal monastery was founded in the 13th century by Dominican nuns from the monastery of Strasbourg and 1783 repealed under Austrian rule by Joseph II. In 1890 the White Fathers moved into the dilapidated building. After the Second World War, it served as an emergency shelter, today there are homes and social institutions in the rebuilt buildings.
