Marietta Alboni

Marietta (actually Anna Maria Marzia ) Alboni ( born March 6, 1826 in Città di Castello in Umbria of, † June 23, 1894 in Ville d' Avray near Paris) was an Italian opera singer of the vocal range alto. Her voice was known for its softness and an extraordinary harmony in the deep tones. As an actress, she appeared in operas game.

Life

Her musical training she received through the singing teacher Antonio Bagioli in Cesena. Gioacchino Rossini also interested in her and studied her with several games from his operas. At age 16, she gave her stage debut in Bologna. She sang in 1843 with great success at La Scala in Milan. Performances also took place in other Italian cities. Later, she appeared with the impresario Bartolomeo Merelli in Vienna, and from there they went on a tour to Saint Petersburg.

In 1845 she appeared in Germany, accompanied by pianist Hermann Berensauf, then in Hungary and Bohemia. For Carnival 1847 she appeared in Rome and in the spring of the same year at the Royal Opera House, where she was also compared with the occurring at the same time at Her Majesty's Theatre Jenny Lind. Based in London, she traveled to Paris in October, where she accepted an engagement at the Italian Opera. In the years 1852 and 1853 she made a tour in America, where she received rave reviews in North America, among others, by Walt Whitman. Probably Alboni was the first interpreter of La Paloma. In 1854 she married Count Achille Pepoli, decreased after the number of their public appearances and retired to his death in 1866 from the stage. In 1877 she married the French officer Charles Dénis Ziegler.
