Marijan Marković

Marijan Markovic, OFM ( born October 21, 1840 in Dolac, in Travnik, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, now Bosnia - Herzegovina, † June 20, 1912 in Banja Luka ) was apostolic administrator in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Banja Luka.

Life

Marijan Markovic joined the Franciscan Order in 1856 in a studied philosophy and theology in Djakovo and was on 25 April 1863 and was ordained deacon a day of religious priests later. He was pastor, philosophy and theology teacher and definitor ( provincial council ) in the Bosnian Franciscan province.

On July 5, 1881, Pope Leo XIII. by his Bull " Ex hac augusta " in Sarajevo ( the old Vhrbosna ) the Archdiocese of Sarajevo, with a metropolitan at the top. He was a suffragan diocese of the newly formed Banja Luka. But no bishop was appointed Apostolic Administrator for this diocese, but ordered. This administration Marijan Markovic was commissioned on 27 March 1884. At the same time he was appointed Titular Bishop of Danaba. He was consecrated on 4 May 1884 in Vienna by Serafino Vannutelli, Apostolic Nuncio in Vienna.

He built a bishop's palace and was designed by the military architect Böhm build the cathedral. The cathedral, dedicated to St. Bonaventure, was inaugurated in the summer of 1887. He opened schools and orphanages, founded religious and cultural associations. He promoted religious houses for the education of children and young people. He favored the establishment of Greek Catholic parishes in his diocese.

He died on June 20, 1912 at the age of 72 years and was buried in the Cathedral of Banja Luka.
