Marín Commission

The European Commission, Manuel Marín, 1999 was in office, it was the Commission, by far the shortest term of office.

The previous Commission under Jacques Santer was elected in 1995 for the term until September 1999. However, due to the corruption scandal Édith Cresson she was forced to resign on 15 March 1999. Since the European Council, however, could not agree on a suitable successor on such short notice, the current Vice- President Manuel Marín was commissioned to form a transitional commission to remain in office until the very end of the term of office of the old Commission. In addition to the change at the top of the Commission members and allocation of responsibilities remained unchanged. The Commission Marín was from 15 March to 12 September 1999 in office. Then the new Commission under Romano Prodi was sworn in on September 13.
