Marina Lewycka

Marina Lewycka ( born 1946 in Kiel ) is a British novelist of Ukrainian descent.

Lewycka came after the Second World War in a refugee camp in Kiel to the world. Her father Petro Lewyckyj (1912-2008) was an engineer. Later the family moved to the United Kingdom. Marina Lewycka studied at Keele University. She lives in Sheffield and works as a lecturer in media studies at Sheffield Hallam University.

Her literary debut was in 2005 at the age of nearly 60 years with the novel A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian ( German Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian). The book became an international bestseller and has been translated into 33 languages ​​. At Hay Festival of Literature she was awarded in 2005 with the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize. In the same year she was nominated for the Orange Prize for Fiction. Her second novel, Two Caravans was published in February 2007 ( German caravan). Her third novel, We Are All Made of Glue was published in 2009 in Fig Tree / Penguin, London. The German edition came out in April 2010 at the Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag in Munich under the title Life sticking out.
