Marina Semyonova

Marina Semyonova Timofyevna (Russian Марина Тимофеевна Семёнова; * 30 Maijul / June 12 1908greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † June 9, 2010 in Moscow) was a Russian prima ballerina.

Biography

Semyonova was one of the first students of Agrippina Vaganova. In 1925 she graduated from the State Choreography School Leningrad and began working at the Mariinsky Theatre. In 1930 she joined the Bolshoi Theatre, where she was active as a ballet dancer until 1952. In 1930 she married the Soviet diplomats Lev Mikhailovich Karachan.

1935 and 1936 she appeared with the Ballet de l' Opéra de Paris in Giselle. Her partner was Serge Lifar.

After the end of her career as a dancer, she worked at the Bolshoi Theatre as a teacher. Your students have included Svetlana Adyrchajewa, Nino Ananiashvili, Natalia Bessmertnowa, Rimma Karelskaja, Marina Kondratjewa, Nadezhda Pavlova, Maya Plisetskaya, Ludmila Semenjaka, Nina Sorokina and Nikolai Ziskaridse.

In 1941, she was awarded the Stalin Prize. In 1975, she was honored as People's Artist of the USSR in 1988 as a hero of socialist labor.

In 2004 she finished her work at the Bolshoi Theatre. There her 100th birthday was celebrated in 2008.

Semyonova was married with Vsevolod Aksenov, with whom she had a daughter, Yekaterina, who is also a former ballerina of the Bolshoi ballet.

Marina Semyonova died three days before her 102nd birthday at her home in Moscow.
