Mario Chiari

Mario Chiari (* July 14, 1909 in Florence, † April 10, 1989 in Rome ) was an Italian production designer and film director.

Life

Chiari began in 1936 at the Experimental Theatre Dei Gufi in his hometown. A decade later, he began his collaboration with Luchino Visconti; other partners were Giorgio Strehler, Elio Pandolfi and Vittorio Gassman. In 1940 he had begun in film as an assistant director and occasional actor, from 1945, he worked for numerous films as an art and costume, which he distinguished himself as one of the most famous in his art in the Italian film history. In his filmography, there are classics such as La carozza d' oro and Le notti Bianche, Miracolo a Milano and La bibbia.

Again and again has Chiari, beginning in 1953, also directed the film; it emerged as eight films, including work for television.

For his work in Doctor Dolittle, he was nominated for an Oscar.
