Mario Levi

Mario Levi ( born 1957 in Istanbul) is one of Turkey's most important modern novelists.

Curriculum vitae

Mario Levi was born in 1957 to Jewish parents in Istanbul. He graduated in 1975 at the French Lycée Français Saint Michel, then went to university and studied in 1980 at the Faculty of Romance language. His first articles were published in the newspaper " Salom ". It was followed by others in journalistic institutions as " Cumhuriyet ", " Studyo Imge ", " Milliyet Sanat ", " Gosteri ", " Argos ", " gergedan ", " Varlik ". His first book is titled " Jacques Brel: A Lonely Man " (1986). This book is the short story version of his doctoral thesis.

Mario Levi worked not only as a writer but also as a French teacher, entrepreneur, journalist, radio producer and copywriter. He lectures at the Yeditepe Üniversitesi at the Faculty of Communication Sciences and teaches creative writing. For his penultimate novel " Istanbul was a fairy tale ", published in Turkish in 1999, he was awarded in 2000 the prestigious Yunus Nadi literary prize. His latest publication in German, "Where were you when the darkness fell? " (2011).
