Mario Livio

Mario Livio ( born 1945 in Romania) is an Israeli astrophysicist and author of popular science books on topics from science and mathematics.

Life

Livio lived until the age of five with his grandparents since his parents had to leave for political reasons Romania. The combined family settled in Israel, where Livio took part in the three wars of the 1960s to the 1980s as a member of the IDF IDF.

Livios academic training took place in Israel and graduated with his doctorate at the University of Tel Aviv to the theoretical astrophysics from. From 1981 to 1991, he taught physics at the Technion in Haifa. Then he went to the United States and has since been working on the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, which is also the Hubble Space Telescope operates. Livio is also a professor of physics and astronomy at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore department.

Livios research activity focused in the 21st century on supernova explosions and their effects on the expansion of space. He also conducted research on black holes and the evolution of planetary systems around stars newly emerged.

Livio is married to the microbiologist Sofie. The couple has three children.
