Mariotte (crater)

650

Mariotte is drawn in the length of impact craters in the southwest quadrant on the back of the moon and therefore can not be observed directly from Earth. It is located southwest of the smaller crater and the north-west of the great crater Chebyshev.

The outline of Mariotte is extended in a southeasterly direction for about five kilometers, which gives the lineup an ovoid appearance. The outer crater rim shows only slight signs of erosion and has a sharp ridge on. The crater floor is, especially in the southeast, rough and uneven.
