Marise Chamberlain

Marise Ann Millicent Chamberlain ( born December 5, 1935 in Christchurch, New Zealand) is a former New Zealand athlete and Olympian.

Chamberlain was a standout athlete of her time. She was New Zealand's only Olympic medalist for a period of 40 years and the fastest New Zealand woman in the 800 meters. In her athletic career she set many world records over 440 and 880 yards and 1 mile. In the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth in 1962 she won the silver medal over 880 yards behind the Australian Dixie Willis ( gold ) and before the Englishwoman Joy Jordan ( bronze). In 1966, she stumbled just before the finish line and thus missed a medal placement.

At the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964, she won the bronze medal in the 800 - meter race after the British Ann Elizabeth Packer (Gold ) and the French Maryvonne Dupureur (silver).
